Gas Mini Bikes

Tips, Reviews and Recommendations on Gas Powered Pocket Bikes

Pocket mini bikes are one of the latest trends spreading across the UK and US. Mini bikes (also called pocket rocket mini bikes or mini pocket rockets) are miniaturized versions of regular motorcycles. Most of these mini bikes work on gas though some also work on electricity through a battery.

Popular Gas Mini Bikes

Most of the mini bikes are gas powered, though there are battery powered mini bikes known as electric mini bikes as well. Gas mini bikes (gas powered mini bikes) are much more common than electric mini bikes. These gas mini bikes can reach maximum speeds of up to 40 miles per hour whereas most electric mini bikes can reach maximum speeds of about 20 miles per hour. Considering the small size of these bikes, even 40 miles per hour is a very dangerous speed and therefore adequate safety measures such as wearing a helmet, kneepads and elbow pads are always recommended.

Gas mini bikes were created in the fifties from spare parts found around the garage. They were primarily used for racing in narrow pit lanes and dirt tracks. They also provided the fastest means of transportation within pit lines. They have always been used for racing. However, Japanese developments made these gas mini pocket bikes much more sophisticated. As a result, when gas mini bikes were first introduced in America, they cost around $4.000 but now they can be bought for as little as $150.

Gas mini bikes use an engine similar to that of a lawnmower but the gas mini bike engine differs from a lawnmower motor in the sense that whereas a gas mini bike motor uses a horizontal shaft, a lawnmower uses a vertical shaft. Therefore, lawnmower motors cannot be used to power gas mini bikes.

Types of Gas Pocket Mini Bikes

Gas mini bikes have evolved now into several distinct types of mini bikes like the standard mini sport bikes, mini dirt bikes, chopper mini bikes, mini quad bikes or gas mini ATVs and gas super mini bikes.

Mini Dirt bikes look like motocross motorcycles and they take off from the idea of small scooters (with often only a footboard and a motor) being used in pit lanes for transportation of only one person (that is, the rider). Mini Dirt Bike races are held on motocross, supercross and go-karts tracks and have also become popular now.

Most gas mini bikes either have a four stroke engine or a two stroke engine. There are some larger versions of mini bikes which resemble full sized motor bikes more. Those are known as super street bikes. Super gas mini bikes sometimes include more accessories like full head lights, tail lights, complete suspension system, a horn, hydraulic brakes, cushioned seats and electric starters.

Chopper mini bikes are miniaturized versions of custom chopper motorcycles (the big shapely looking motor bike used in films like Easy Rider) and the mini quad bike is a miniaturized version of the quad bikes, all terrain vehicles (ATV) or bikes on four wheels.

These are some of the major variations of gas mini bikes.
